Paralegals
The Ratliff Law Firm is seeking competent paralegals in the Knoxville, Tennessee and Tri-Cities areas. The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements (or preferred requirements where indicated):
- An associate or bachelor degree in Paralegal Studies (or similar plan of study) and/or an English major is preferred. The applicant’s academic record in either area of study should reflect at least a 2.5 GPA.
- Two to four years of experience is preferred in either a law office, accounting office, or financial advisor office setting.
- Prior experience in corporate, estate planning and probate law is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including assistance in organizing seminars for client base is required.
- Strong analytical, organizational and research skills is required.
- Strong attention to detail is required.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and take basic directions from attorneys to meet overall objectives is required.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office software applications, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint is required.
- Willingness to track hours for attorneys and paralegals, and further invoicing clients for such services is required.
- Certification with the Tennessee Paralegal Association preferred and will be required after employment. CLAS status in preferred fields of law is a plus.
- References on submission of resume requested. Working professional references preferred (other attorneys, financial advisors, or accountants). Include at least two references.
Compensation will be competitive based on qualifications. Our firm has a very rich medical insurance plan, which will be made available to the successful applicant(s).

Lateral Senior Partner
The Ratliff Law Firm is seeking an attorney with a general practice competency for its Wise County, Virginia office. The terms and conditions of this offering will be negotiated upon inquiry, but the following facts are relevant:
- The Ratliff Law Firm owns its office facility at 11626 Norton-Coeburn Road in Coeburn, Virginia in Wise County. The office is currently 1350 sq. ft, but can be expanded to 3000 sq. ft. Norton-Coeburn road is a primary highway with high traffic count for the county in general. The office is surrounded by a bank, fast-food restaurants, insurance agents and a regional grocery store.
- A comfortable apartment is also available at the premises.
- The office is state-of-the-art, and is currently ready to operate as a law office.
- The office has been vacant for two years as the principal attorney of The Ratliff Law Firm, Eric S. Ratliff, moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to pursue opportunities there.
- The Ratliff Law Firm is interested in partnering with an attorney experienced in Criminal, Tort, and/or Social Security and Worker’s Compensation law at the Wise County location.
- The Ratliff Law Firm will support the practice with its business, tax and estate planning law knowledge. In addition, The Ratliff Law Firm will specifically undertake all contract and real estate law clients where needed.
- The Ratliff Law Firm will assist the candidate partner with introductions to contacts in Wise County and surrounding counties.
- The Ratliff Law Firm will enter definitive agreements with the partner to finance the new office.
The successful attorney will meet the following minimum requirements (or preferred requirements where indicated):
- Having a license in good standing with the Virginia State Bar is required. A Tennessee license in addition is preferred. Licensing in a surrounding state is a plus.
- Two to four years experience is preferred. Being a former assistant district attorney for a Virginia county or city is a plus.
- The successful applicant must make a financial obligation to capitalize the firm. Such financial obligation will be reflected in definitive agreements as to the division of profits and losses.
- The successful applicant must have a long-term commitment to residing in or near Wise County.
- The successful applicant may find opportunity for extra hours from our Tennessee offices if duly licensed in Tennessee, but partnership in the Tennessee office is not currently offered.
- The Ratliff Law Firm will consider partnering with a practitioner already established in a surrounding town or county looking to expand its own practice to Wise County and surrounding counties.
Partnership distributions will be based on definitive agreements after negotiations regarding the division of profits and losses. Our firm has a rich medical insurance plan, which the successful candidate will have opportunity to participate.
